چکیده

Distributed First Order Logic (DFOL) is a formalism introduced more than 10 years ago with the purpose of formalising distributed knowledge-based systems. In these systems, knowledge is scattered in a set of heterogeneous and interconnected modules. The original version of DFOL defined a set of primitives for the specification of a restricted subset of interconnections between knowledge modules. Despite this limitation, the ideas originally introduced in DFOL have influenced, in a significant manner, several works in the areas of distributed knowledge representation, heterogeneous knowledge integration, and semantic web, in the last 10+ years. The development of these works, together with the growth of interest in logical formalisms for the representation of distributed knowledge, have, in turn, fostered the development of a set of extensions and modifications of DFOL which have never been systematically described and published. In this paper we intend to sistematize and present, in a clear and comprehensive manner, this completely revised and extended version of DFOL. This version presents a general mechanism for the specification of interconnections between knowledge modules which takes into account the work done in applying the DFOL ideas in various fields of distributed knowledge representation, heterogeneous knowledge integration, and semantic web. The resulting general version of DFOL is therefore proposed as a clear formal tool for the representations and reasoning about distributed knowledge-base systems.

On the compactness property of extensions of first-order G"{o}del logic

We study three kinds of compactness in some variants of G"{o}del logic: compactness, entailment compactness, and approximate entailment compactness. For countable first-order underlying language we use the Henkinconstruction to prove the compactness property of extensions offirst-order g logic enriched by nullary connective or the Baaz'sprojection connective. In the case of uncountable first-orde...

Distributed Contingency Logic and Security

In information security, ignorance is not bliss. It is always stated that hiding the protocols (let the other be ignorant about it) does not increase the security of organizations. However, there are cases that ignorance creates protocols. In this paper, we propose distributed contingency logic, a proper extension of contingency (ignorance) logic. Intuitively, a formula is distributed contingen...

Distributed agent-based automated theorem proving in order-sorted first-order logic

This paper presents a distributed agent-based automated theorem proving framework based on ordersorted first-order logic. Each agent in our framework has its own knowledge base, communicating to its neighboring agent(s) using message-passing algorithms. The communication language between agents is restricted in such a manner that each agent can only communicate to its neighboring agent(s) by me...

Defining Network Activity Patterns Using First Order Temporal Logics

Part of network management is collecting information about the activities that go on around a distributed system and analyzing it in real time, at a deferred moment, or both. The reason such information may be stored in log files and analyzed later is to data-mine it so that interesting, unusual, or abnormal patterns can be discovered. In this paper we propose defining patterns in network activ...
